Temphase FAQs
Why doesn’t Revolution2 stick to the Temphase, it keeps popping off?
If Revolution2 is not sticking to Temphase, the air-inhibited layer has
been removed. Remember, if the temporary has not been polished you may
add Revolution without a bonding agent. If the temporary has been
polished and the air-inhibited layer has been removed, a bonding agent
is necessary. The recommended bonding procedure:
1. Abrade the surface or roughen it up with a bur (no acid etch)
2. Clean it up
3. Apply bonding resin
4. Cure.
5. Apply Revolution and cure.
Can any other tip be used other than the blue Temphase tip?
Other tips may fit the cartridge but it is not recommended. Other tips
may not have the same number of plates and may not be designed for the
same viscosity of material. The Temphase tip has been thoroughly tested
and provides the optimal mix for the material.
Can heat alter Temphase?
Yes- if the doctor’s office is extremely hot or the product is not
stored at room temperature, the set time can be altered. Extreme heat
can cause a faster set. Temphase has, however, been thoroughly.
temperature tested for shipping and storage purposes.
What is a polycarbonate crown and will Temphase bond to it?
Polycarbonate crown is a pre-formed or ready-made temporary. Doctors
will often need to reline the temporary to make it fit. Temphase will
not bond to a polycarbonate crown. Roughing or sandblasting the surface
may help the Temphase bond or a bonding agent may be used.
How long will Temphase last in the mouth? What is meant by long-term?
Specific length of time is impossible to quote due to the number of
variables such as: initial accuracy of fit, experience of operator,
type of temporary cement used, opposing dentition etc. Temphase has
seen known to last for months under ideal conditions.
How many crowns per cartridge of Temphase?
Depending on the tooth, approximately 50.
If the shades offered do not match the patient, can Temphase be mixed with Kolor Plus to modify the color?
We don’t make a full range of shades because it is temporary. We do
make the 5 shades that match most patients. Mixing with Kolor Plus
would work in principle: however, there are some potential problems:
such as work time. Mixing together can incorporate air bubbles voids
causing weak spots in the temporary, which can lead to breakage.
Can Temphase be refrigerated?
It can be refrigerated, but does not need to be. If refrigerated it
must be warmed back up before use. If it is too cold, the viscosity may
change and make it difficult to extrude.
How does the shrinkage of Temphase compare to the other bisacryls?
According to testing conducted at the Kerr Dental Materials Center (DMC), Temphase shrinks less than the competition.
Why are my temporaries breaking? Is Temphase more brittle than Protemp or Luxatemp?
Bisacryls are more brittle by nature than acrylics. Temphase has been
thoroughly tested at the the Kerr Dental Materials Center and has been
found to be no more brittle than the competition. If a doctor complains
of breakage, we need to investigate his/her technique. Some questions
to ask:
1. Could there possibly be an adhesive failure? If the temporary
becomes loose and the patient bites on it, it can break. Doctors
sometimes dilute the temporary cement with Vaseline.
2. Was it a single or bridge? A bridge may need to be splinted with Connect.
3. Is the occlusion correct? If the occlusion is high, breakage can occur.
4. What material was used previously? If it is an acrylic, it may
take some practice to get used to the handling of Temphase.
5. Was Fast or Regular Set used? The Fast Set is much faster than
what the operator is currently familiar with. Human error is more
likely to occur. He/she may be racing the clock and not using enough
material. Margins may be weak or voids may be incorporated. The doctor
may need to use Regular Set until he/she is more comfortable with
handling.
Can Temphase be used if the tooth is blown out and not enough tooth structure is present?
Many times in this situation, a dentist will use a pre-formed
polycarbonate crown. The dentist has two choices if he/she wants to use
Temphase:
1. Build up the tooth with composite or a core build up material.
2. Apply Temphase directly on tooth without a vacuform. (Fast Set) and cut in the anatomy.
